Description
Four pelicans perched themselves in mangrove treetops along the coast of Snake Key in the Cedar Keys, positioning themselves in a line, each presenting a perfect profile. They look like they ought to be on the move and headed somewhere, but no, they're just sitting. Maybe this is a pelican version of sunbathing. You can see the warm Florida sunshine shining through the throat pouch of several of them.
The Cedar Keys are off the Gulf coast of central Florida, in the general area of Gainesville and Bronson, south of Steinhatchee. These islands are largely wild and uninhabited. Snake Key has a natural bird rookery where pelicans, roseate spoonbills, frigate birds, and others congregate.
