MAJESTIC EAGLE IN THE FILTERED LIGHT OF THE FOREST is a fine art photograph by Carla Parris.

This impressive American bald eagle was photographed in St. Marks National Wildlife Refuge on the Gulf coast of northwest Florida, south of Tallahassee, Florida, in 2015.

The eagle was sitting in the perfect position for the sunlight filtering through the overhead trees of the forest to land directly on his head, spotlighting his beautiful, stately, dignified profile and his signature white head.

He was surprisingly large! He was perched lower than usual - on the banks of a small pond on Lighthouse Road in the preserve instead of high atop one of the park's pine trees - and was closer than I usually experience. Even so, his size really was shocking. He was over three feet tall (I would estimate closer to 4 feet, and my husband corroborates my impression and recollection). He was positioned for hunting, although his gaze was not directed towards the water at the time I captured this image.

This artistic image is a digital composite of my original photograph and a lovely painted texture with greens, golds, and browns suggestive of the colors in his natural setting. My inspiration was to echo the look of traditional fine art photographs. I felt this magnificent creature was worthy of such a presentation!
