Description
Although I have entitled this photograph "St. Marks Square Crowds," the bulk of the captured scene is technically not The Piazza di San Marco, but rather the Piazzetta di San Marco, which is an adjacent open space connecting the south side of the Piazza to the waterway of the lagoon. The Piazzetta lies between the Doge's Palace on the east (the right of the photograph), and Jacopo Sansovino's Libreria which holds the Biblioteca Marciana on the west (the left of the photograph). However, the rear section of the captured open area is part of St. Marks Square proper, with a front view of the Clocktower with the archway into the Mercerie leading to the Rialto, and with a side view of St. Marks Basilica.

Thanks so much, Anne. The top deck of our cruise ship afforded this spectacular view! Definitely a different perspective than I had enjoyed before, and it was complete with Andrea Bocelli singing "Time to Say Goodbye" as we sailed out of the Grand Canal and left Venice. Ahhh... wonderful memories (including of the coffeee!!)
