Description
Cape Cod architecture, like the English cottages which inspired its style, is cozy, charming, picturesque, and inviting. It has its roots in colonial America, and can be seen up and down coastal New England as well as in Cape Cod, Massachusetts.
The classic style is generally symmetrical, is usually one story, has a basic rectangular shape, features a central door, and often has windows with shutters. The wood siding is usually either unpainted cedar shake shingles, as seen here, which weather over time to a muted gray, or painted clapboard siding.
Here, a lovely painted robin's egg blue door, with bright pink hydrangeas flanking the steps and flowers spilling out of window boxes, is altogether welcoming! Nothing says "Home Sweet Home" more than this appealing architecture!
This quaint and picturesque home was photographed in Provincetown, Massachusetts.
