Description
Who was Martha anyway?
The Massachusetts island called Martha's Vineyard was discovered by Bartholomew Gosnold, an English explorer, in 1612, and he named the island after his daughter Martha. The vineyard name came from the proliferation of wild grape vines growing on the island's coastal shores.
Vineyard Haven, pictured here, is the island's main harbor, and the town is one of the three largest on the island, along with Oaks Bluff and Edgartown..
