Description
Geraingerfjord is a UNESCO site, and it is easy to see why. It is stunningly beautiful!
This is the classic view of Geraingerfjord from one of several elevated viewpoints, some of which are open only a small part of the year because of snow.
Norway’s fjords were created by glaciers during the last Ice Age. Each fjord had its own character and unique beauty. Geraingerfjord was my favorite because it was narrow, relatively speaking, and we were so close to the towering cliffs, with huge waterfalls (immense in height and drop, and also width) when we sailed through it, and also because of this view when we reached the end, at the town of Gerainger.
Cruising the fjords is an unparalleled experience. The fjords go far inland, affording as much as six hours of scenic cruising from the North Sea to the end of the fjord! And then of course you get to do it all over again when you sail back out to sea!
It is difficult to convey the immensity of the mountains surrounding the fjords. Here, the smaller of the two cruise ships is dwarfed by the cliffs and mountains, but it was a big ship! I know, because we were on it!
One of my favorite parts of the beautiful landscapes in the fjords was the presence of lush green cliffs and mountains, coupled with taller, often more distant, snow-capped beauties. And when there were waterfalls, and there were many, that was an added bonus.

My partner was Norwegian and managed to tour Norway before passing. I wish I could have gone with him, but it was too cold for me. You have beautiful images and though he may not have been in the place of your pictures, images of beautiful Norway always remind me of him.
