Description
As morning arrives, the distant snow- capped mountains surrounding the Hardangerfjord, and the clouds above this lovely scene, reflect bits of a soft pink from the light of the rising sun.
Norway’s fjords are magnificent. Adjectives like stunning and majestic are the closest I can find to describe them, but these descriptions fall seriously short of capturing their beauty. They really have to be experienced to be fully appreciated.
The fjords were formed by massive glaciers during the last Ice Age. Each of the fjords has its own unique character and particular beauty. Many extend far inland, affording hour after hour of scenic cruising from the North Sea to ports at the end of the fjord. And of course what you see on a sail- in gets to be experienced again, in reverse, on the sail back out to the North Sea.
This scene was captured on the Hardangerfjord, en route to Ulvik at the end of the fjord (near the better- known town of Eidford). Our sail-in passed under the Hardangerfjord Bridge, Norway’s largest suspension bridge (but just barely!)
