Description
Several colorful kayaks have been pulled onto the white sand beach (but just barely!) so that their owners can explore the inland areas of one of the Cedar Key islands.
The Cedar Keys are a chain of barrier islands off the Nature Coast of Florida. They are popular for hiking (just beware of snakes!) and kayaking, as well as fishing and the clam industry.
This island landscape scene shows the scrubby nature of the vegetation on the keys. There are cabbage palms, palmettos, and mangroves. In past years there were abundant cedar trees, which gave rise to the pencil industry on Atsena Otie Key in earlier times.
