Description
FAIRY TALE WATER LILIES POND is a mixed media acrylic painting by Carla Parris.
This painting of a pond, overhung with weeping willow trees, filled with floating lily pads and colorful water lilies, was inspired by a visit to Claude Monet's home in Giverny, where his Japanese Gardens have such a pond.
Like Monet's paintings of his beautiful pond, this painting has no horizon. The viewer's eye is invited from the foreground flowers and grasses into the distant waters at the top of the painting.
The water has bright clear areas, reflecting the clear blue overhead sky, and dark, murky, shady, mysterious, and moody areas.
In this whimsical painting, three little dragonflies frolic contentedly among the lily pads.
The original painting is heavily textured, with bits of embedded gauze and thread. These bits of ephemera are suggestive of the weeping willows which frame many views at Monet's Giverny water lilies pond in his Japanese garden.
The cheerful and playful painting has a fairy tale look and feel.
The palette is greens and blues, including aqua, turquoise, and chartreuse, with pink, magenta, and white accents.
The original sold in March, 2015 at On The Waterfront Gallery in Apalachicola, Florida.
