Description
Beautiful scenes like this abound within the Dora Canal, a Central Florida waterway between Lake Dora and Lake Eustis.
The Dora Canal, previously known as the Elfin River, is part of the Harris Chain of Lakes, which is a series of eight lakes and their connecting canals and streams, which form Florida’s Ocklawaha Basin. This region drains north, via the St Johns River, all the way to the Atlantic Ocean, which it enters at Jacksonville.
This scenic waterway passes through a jungle-like wetland under a thick canopy of cypress trees, where bird life abounds. In 1951, several re-takes of the film classic African Queen, which had originally been filmed in Africa, were shot here. Now, part of the canal is a residential area, while the remainder is an undeveloped nature preserve.

Hurrah for having your artwork chosen to be a featured piece on our homepage this week. You have many fine pieces in your portfolio of your works, and I am happy you chose this one to submit for possible featuring in our group on the homepage. It now has reached that goal of being featured in our group, a family of friends and fine artists of the Wisconsin Flowers and Scenery Group. Congratulations on this fine accomplishment
