Description
AMONG THE WILD IRISES is a mixed media, heavily textured, collage-type acrylic painting by Carla Parris
This cheerful whimsical piece features graceful tall purple irises blooming at the edge of a pond. A little goldfish swims among the grasses and other vegetation in the water.
The aqua background, with embedded tissue paper and Oriental papers, has the look of sunlit water with ripples and movement from the current.
The palette is aqua, turquoise, sky blue, lime green, olive green, rich purple, and yellow gold.
The water effect of the blues comes largely from texture created from tissue paper which has been pressed into glue and paint and affixed to the canvas substrate.
The little goldfish swimming among the waving tall grasses was cut out from a piece of heavy paper which, after being painted yellow, had tissue paper pressed onto the wet surface.
The leaves at the bottom are composed of gauze material shaped around a wire support.
The iris blossoms were photocopies, on tissue paper, of portions of an original mixed media acrylic painting ("Wild Iris at Water's Edge," available here).
