Description
STAINED LASS LEAVES is a colorful watercolor painting by Carla Parris which has been digitally altered and enhanced.
The original painting was created by applying rich watercolor paints to wet paper, and then pressing dried leaves, crumpled saran wrap, and cheesecloth, with loose threads, into the wet paint and allowing the paint to dry before removing the overlaid items.
This technique always yields serendipitous results and a spontaneous, semi-abstract, iimpressionistic look and feel. The plastic wrap yielded the lovely organic shapes, reminiscent of broken glass, which are most pronounced in the lower right, but can also be seen on the bottom left and peeking through the paint on the upper left below the top corner leaf. The cheesecloth, with the texture of loosely woven gauze and loose threads on the torn edges, yielded some of the background texture and the little squiggly lines of saturated color visible at the top.
This image, with rich jewel tones of sapphire blue, emerald green, and carnelian orange, has the look and feel of stained glass.

Carla, I love paintings with leaves. It's so hard to master them and this is a masterpiece print! The rich fall colors are simply divine. The process you shared is interesting and creative on the genius level. Lovely work for sure.
