Description
Lijiang is a wonderful old town in Yunnan Province in southwest China. It is north of Kunming, near the border with Tibet.
The charming Old Town of Lijiang, with cobblestones streets holding treasures at every turn, is a UNESCO World Heritage site.
This colorful scene shows the traditional buildings, with their distinctive roofs, on either side of one of the town's many canals.
In adherence to Feng Shui principles, the layout of the town was designed to conform to the flow of three streams, providing water and waste disposal for its residents.
One of the buildings has laundry hanging outside and there is a charming painted wooden bridge crossing the canal.
