Description
This female black-chinned hummingbird (archilochus alexandri) was photographed in Tallahassee, Florida, hovering over a cluster of pinkish mauve pentas.
Did you know that not only do hummingbirds have long beaks, but they have tongues that are even longer?!
Black-chinned hummers have lovely iridescent bluish green on their back and tail, and dark black beaks that contrast against their light throats.
Some of their favorite plants are salvia, cigar plants, and pentas. These small birds are always welcome visitors to my garden!
