Description
Moonstone beach is a beautiful romantic, uncrowded, and unspoiled coastal area near Cambria, California. It offers scenic walks, beautiful sunsets, sandy beaches, and waves crashing in misty motion.
As the name suggests, it is also a great place for collecting moonstones, which are rocks with a sheen which glows like the moon. These beautiful rocks, which range from translucent to opaque, were thought be the ancient Romans to be created from frozen moonbeams.
Moonstones are made from very common minerals ( the orthoclase feldspar group). Their sheen comes from the "schiller effect," which is light refracting and reflecting off many layers of feldspar orthoclase and albite.
