Description
The city of Ephesus, located in modern day Turkey, was an ancient Greek city and, later, a major Roman city. The circular symbol pictured here, which was photographed in Ephesus, is an ancient adaptation of the "ichthys" Christian symbol. Superimposed within the wheel are the 5 greek letters which, together, mean "fish," and which, individually, mean "Jesus Christ, Son of God, Savior." This secret symbol, which was used by persecuted Christians, was carved into some of the marble stones in Ephesus.
