Description
Claude Monet's water lily paintings are on display at the l'Orangerie museum in downtown Paris. They are huge canvases, displayed in a stunning gallery designed by the artist himself. They completely encircle the room, which has long central benches for viewing these masterpieces in an immersive 360 degree experience, and the entire space is bathed in beautiful natural light. The paintings are far more impressive in person than I ever imagined They are truly stunning.
On one of my very best days ever in France, I visited the gallery in the morning, and in the afternoon visited the artist's home in Giveny where I was able to see, in person, the Japanese Gardens, designed by Monet himself - a master gardener, that inspired his iconic paintings.
My painting captures some of my impressions and memories of those wonderful experiences in Paris and nearby Giverny. It features floating lily pads and lilies, surrounding vegetation, and overhanging weeping willow trees framing the scene. The famous water-lily filled ponds are surrounded with lush, beautiful, carefully planned landscaping that give them the sense of a very secret garden. The original artwork is a highly-textured, mostly-acrylic, mixed media piece done on canvas.
This romantic interpretation of Monet's pond was done with a pastel color scheme and a loosely impressionistic style.
Ahhh, lovely Giverny. You will always be among my sweetest memories.
