Artist's Description
This painterly style image features a four-spotted pennant dragonfly against a textured background in warm tones of gold, peach, and aqua.
The original photograph was captured at St. Marks National Wildlife Refuge in Wakulla County in northwest Florida.
Dragonflies, along with damselflies, are insects belonging to the biological order Odonata. These insects have four wings and an elongated body. Their heads are dominated by extremely large multifaceted eyes which allow the insect to see in almost every direction except directly behind..
Despite their delicate appearance, the veined transparent wings of dragonflies are very strong and grant the insect extraordinary maneuverability. The four wings operate independently, allowing the insect to hover, fly forwards, backwards, sideways, and even upside down, and to change direction abruptly.

My love of photography grew out of capturing images from my travels, so photographs of beautiful and interesting places comprise a large portion of my portfolio. I am a Southern girl, and love the beauty that is in my back yard, so there are also lots of images from close to home. These include images of our beautiful Gulf Coast beaches, which I visit any time I can! I also enjoy capturing images of interesting flora and fauna, and wildlife images I am able to capture with my newest telephoto lens!
