A single stalk of sorghum stands high above the crowd in a field in rural northwest Florida.
Sorghum is an exotic grass, native to India.
In the South, this grass, with rust colored seed heads, is grown to feed to livestock or as forage for wildlife. It is also cultivated for its stalks, which can be crushed to make syrup, similar to how sugar cane is used to produce cane syrup.
This image was captured in late autumn in a roadside field near the small town of Gretna, in Gadsden County.
My love of photography grew out of capturing images from my travels, so photographs of beautiful and interesting places comprise a large portion of my portfolio. I am a Southern girl, and love the beauty that is in my back yard, so there are also lots of images from close to home. These include images of our beautiful Gulf Coast beaches, which I visit any time I can! I also enjoy capturing images of interesting flora and fauna, and wildlife images I am able to capture with my newest telephoto lens! I am a painter, as well as a photographer, and offer galleries of paintings and mixed media pieces. My interest in traditional art has spilled over to my post processing of photographs, and in addition to images with minimal post...
