Artist's Description

Armstrong Redwoods is a national park in Sonoma County, California, near Guerneville and just north of the Russian River. Here, stately, majestic, magnificent coast redwoods, or Sequoia sempervirens, are protected in a preserve and natural park which, somewhat ironically, was established by an 1800’s lumberman, Colonel James Armstrong.

The park‘s tallest tree is the Parson Jones Tree, towering more than 310 feet high; its oldest tree is the Colonel Armstrong tree, thought to be over 1400 years old; and its most unusual tree is the Icicle Tree, which has some of the burl formations which grow on these redwoods.

Coast redwoods are the planet’s tallest living things, and are among its oldest living things. They can live more than 2000 years, and have been found more than 375 feet tall.

It is peaceful, serene, and humbling to walk among these verdant giants.

About Carla Parris

Carla Parris

My love of photography grew out of capturing images from my travels, so photographs of beautiful and interesting places comprise a large portion of my portfolio. I am a Southern girl, and love the beauty that is in my back yard, so there are also lots of images from close to home. These include images of our beautiful Gulf Coast beaches, which I visit any time I can! I also enjoy capturing images of interesting flora and fauna, and wildlife images I am able to capture with my newest telephoto lens! I am a painter, as well as a photographer, and offer galleries of paintings and mixed media pieces. My interest in traditional art has spilled over to my post processing of photographs, and in addition to images with minimal post...
