Description
TWO HIBISCUS BLOSSOMS is a tropical floral painting by Carla Parris.
This painting has a spontaneous look and feel, which is attributable to the method by which it was done.
I first pressed plastic wrap into wet paint, allowed the paint to dry, and then lifted the plastic wrap. I was pleased to discover that the resulting shapes resembled hibiscus flower, so I worked the painting further, mostly with watercolor pencils, to enhance the blooms.
The palette of the painting is orange red, yellow green, and olive green, with touches of aqua in the background.

Thanks, Madeline! This piece is one of my "Saran-dipity" series... it started with saran wrap smushed into acrylic and watercolor paint. That's where the fun texture (particularly on the leaves) and some of the shapes came from. Then I worked the image with additional paint and with watercolor pencils to enhance the hibiscus shapes that were largely there already. I love the serendipitous happenings from using the saran wrap early in the process... I often end up with something I didn't necessarily start out to create! And thanks for the vote (if it was from you). :)
