THE BEAUTY WITHIN is a digital painting by Carla Parris.
This gorgeous amaryllis grew, at record speed, on a stalk almost 2 1/2 feet tall, from a bulb given to us for Christmas by very kind neighbors. All we did was add water and put the pot near a sunny window.
It was so much fun to watch its almost overnight growth. Within a month, we had two tall stalks with a total of nine spectacular blooms!
This close up of one of the blooms, with its focus in the deep throat of the flower where the petals converge, seems to speak of beauty within.
It brought to mind the verse in 1 Peter 3 where women are encouraged not to let our adornment be external only, but rather "the hidden person of the heart" with the "imperishable beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is very precious in God's sight." That verse seems all the more poignant, with its reference to an imperishable beauty, as my once beautiful amaryllis flowers are now gone. It is a gentle reminder to me to not neglect the important and eternal matters of the heart.
