Description
SOLITUDE ON THE FLORIDA GULF COAST is a digital photograph by Carla Parris.
There is a stretch of Florida's Gulf Coast which locals refer to as the Forgotten coast. it includes the coastal area on Highway 98 between the small fishing communities of Eastpoint and Carrabelle, pictured here.
When you see a scene like this, does it feel lonely and deserted to you, or delightfully serene and peaceful and utterly idyllic?
I lean towards the latter. I can imagine long walks on the beach, or sitting by the water in a comfortable reclining beach chair, or even relaxing in a hammock over the water at the end of a pier (there is such a spot just a short distance from this scene).
If you go on a beach walk here, you will have to tiptoe around the cypress knees that are scattered along the coast.
The water is shallow here, and you can safely wade a long way from shore.
Sometimes, there are gentle waves lapping the shore. But this day, the water was almost like glass, and oh, so beautiful.
Florida has a variety of beaches, and offers two distinctly different coasts - the Atlantic coast on the east, and the Gulf coast on the west and panhandle. I am a beach girl and never met a beach I didn't like, but I am rather partial to northwest Florida's Gulf beaches.
