Description
At the end of the day, as the edge of the water and damp beach sand are bathed in the golden light of late afternoon, the remains of a sandcastle are being slowly and gently eroded by each wave from the incoming tide.
The damp sand is reflecting the beautiful light of the golden hour, creating lovely patterns and lines. There is a sharp, hard line where the light tones of the damp sand meet the dark charcoal gray of the dry sand.
The sea foam from the incoming waves is light gray, while the deeper water, like the damp sand, is reflecting the gold tones of the overhead sky.
Late afternoon is one of my favorite times at the beach. The beach is usually pretty empty, and there is an almost palpable serenity as the light diminishes, the night approaches, and the waves continue to gently lap the seashore. Sometimes the late afternoon also brings glorious sunsets, and as they fade with the approach of evening, a quiet hush settles over the entire peaceful scene.
This natural abstract image was captured at Destin, on the Gulf of Mexico, on the Emerald Coast of northwest Florida.
