Description
Barcelona is full of architecture, sculptures, and mosaics by modernist Antoni Gaudi. One of the most visited Gaudi treasures is Park Guell, on Carmel Hill, where Gaudi applied his creative skills to landscaping as well as architecture.
The top of the park, the Plaça de la Natura, is a terraced area offering wonderful views of the park, the entrance to the park with its two Hansel and Gretel-inspired gingerbread style buildings, and the Barcelona skyline.
There is a tiled bench, a portion of which is visible in the foreground of this image, which curves sinuously around the terrace’s perimeter. Designed by architect Jujol, a colleague of Gaudi, the ergonomic mosaic Banc de Trencadís is colorful, whimsical, and comfortable.
No surprisingly, Park Guell, along with other Gaudi buildings and works, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
