Description
The shadows during the 2017 solar eclipse were amazing!
When eclipsed sunlight filters through leaves or vegetation, they act as pinpoint or pinhole cameras, creating crescent shapes and casting wonderful unusual shadows.
This image was captured in Tallahassee, Florida, on August 21, 2017, when the sun was approximately 80% obscured by the moon.
I placed a white canvas on the ground underneath a flowering crepe myrtle plant. The sunlight from behind was being filtered by the leaves of taller trees between the subject and the sun. This was the result!
All during the eclipse, as I was having fun discovering and photographing awesome shadows, I kept thinking of an old Cat Stevens song, the first line of which was, "Im being followed by a moon shadow." I haven't thouhgt of that song in years, but it was playing over and over inside my head.
The colors of this image are the way the camera captured the shadows. I am not sure why the shadows have a blue tone, but they all did, as seen through the camera's lens. And all the images I took of shadows during the eclipse had, very appropriately, something of an ethereal, otherworldly look and feel to them.
