Description
MENACING MOUTH is a digital photo by Carla Parris of a Florida alligator's wide open jaws, and an impressive set of teeth!
It is not unusual to see lots of alligators on the jungle boat ride at Wakulla Springs, Florida. However, this view was a first. This big fella had his mouth wide open the entire time he was in our view.
Here's hoping this is the closest you ever come to seeing such a menacing mouth!
Wakulla Springs is a beautiful natural spring outside Tallahassee, Florida in neighboring Wakulla County. The state park has a lodge with a restaurant open to the public, a swimming area (with cold, spring fed clear water, and roped off from the rest of the water and river where guys like this reside), hiking trails, and recreational boat rides.
The park is a nature lover's paradise, and particularly great for bird watching. The jungle boat ride is a great way to see beautiful native scenery and an abundance of wildlife, including endangered animals such as manatees.
The glass bottom boat shows the underwater life, and the impressive limestone ledge beneath which is the entrance to the vast length of caves leading to the mouth of the springs. The passageway to the spring is so long that it has not yet been fully explored by divers.
A number of mostly older movies have been filmed at Wakulla Springs, including one of the early Tarzan movies, and The Creature From the Black Lagoon.
This image was one of a number of photographs was published in the April, 2014 issue of Eye on Fine Art Photography.
