Description
Jiuzhaigou is a nature reserve in the north of Sichuan province in southwestern China. Jiuzhaigou Valley is part of the Min Shan mountain range on the edge of the Tibetan Himalayan Plateau. Jiuzhaigou's best-known feature is its dozens of blue, green and turquoise-colored lakes which, according to legend, were formed when a goddess broke a mirror, and the shattered pieces fell to the earth . Some lakes, like Five Color Lake, also called Jade Pool, pictured here, have a high concentration of calcium carbonate and water so clear that the bottom is often visible even at great depths. Jiuzhaigou was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1992.

Thanks, Bob and Nancy. I have never seen water like this... so clear, with such beautiful colors.
