Apparently mom is a little behind schedule on feeding, or at least one demanding chick thinks so!
This roseate spoonbill has three babies, but one is definitely the squeaky wheel, hoping to get mom to get with the program.
These pretty pink coastal birds are easily identifiable not only by their lovely color, which can range from pale pink, to peach, to rose, to deep rose, but also by their very unique and distinctive large flat bill. Their name is derived from their color and their bill.
This sweet family was photographed in the Native Rookery at the St. Augustine Alligator Farm in early May, 2021. The preserve was a buzz of activity, with lots of nesting, lots of caregiving of hatchlings, and a few adults still tweaking nests.
