FLOATING LILIES is a collage style painting by Carla Parris.
Starting with Monet, and his famous paintings of the pond at his home in Giverny, France, water lilies have been a favorite subject for artists.
This mixed media piece is a heavily textured, colorful, playful, whimsical interpretation of floating lily pads and water lilies.
The palette is pale blue, royal blue, shrimp pink, pale peach, chartreuse, yellow green, and olive green.
The piece's texture comes from multiple layers. There is a tissue paper covered background which has been enhanced with appliqued elements, embedded gauze, and an aray of paint splatters.
My love of photography grew out of capturing images from my travels, so photographs of beautiful and interesting places comprise a large portion of my portfolio. I am a Southern girl, and love the beauty that is in my back yard, so there are also lots of images from close to home. These include images of our beautiful Gulf Coast beaches, which I visit any time I can! I also enjoy capturing images of interesting flora and fauna, and wildlife images I am able to capture with my newest telephoto lens! I am a painter, as well as a photographer, and offer galleries of paintings and mixed media pieces. My interest in traditional art has spilled over to my post processing of photographs, and in addition to images with minimal post...
