Description
A little female hooded merganser is perched on a stand of cypress stumps in the cold,spring-fed waters of Edward Ball Wakulla Springs State Park in northwest Florida.
The females of this breed of ducks seem to have perpetual bad hair days, especially after swimming and diving.
Hooded mergansers are migratory birds which visit this state park in the cold months.
The preserve has stands of cypress trees as well as stands of stumps, known as cypress knees. The latter are a favorite spot for waterfowl and turtles (Suwanee cooters) to perch.
The profile of this female hooded merganser duck, with its cute expression, was photographed at Edward Ball Wakulla Springs State Park in March, 2018.
