Description
EXMOOR WILD PONY is a digital photograph by Carla Parris.
The Exmoor Pony is a currently endangered horse breed native to the British Isles.
Ponies still roam as semi-feral livestock on Exmoor (a large area of moorland in Devon and Somerset in southwest England).
They live free in the sense that they have to live on the harsh moor throughout the year, find their own food, and care for their young, although they are herded and brought in for inspection and branding once a year.
This lovely pony was photographed on my first visit to Somerset where I was delighted to get to see several of these beautiful creatures at close range as we drove through Exmoor National Park one afternoon.
He is seen here walking among the heather and tall grasses, with rolling hills behind him.
This photograph, in warm tones of brown, green gold, sienna, and dusty blue, has been tweaked and antiqued just a bit, with subtle texture and processing, to give the overall image a dreamy, romantic, vintage, idyllic, fairy tale like look.
