Description
The 2017 solar eclipse produced wonderful, dreamy, ethereal, otherworldly shadows as eclipsed sunlight, obscured in part by the moon, filtered through overhead trees and vegetation, such as the crepe myrtle which cast the main shadow in this image.
This image was taken in Tallahassee, Florida. The shadows were cast on a piece of white canvas at a time when the eclipse was waning and the sunlight was returning.
The soft, out of focus effect is not from poor use of the camera. This was exactly how the image appeared on the canvas, except that the blue tones are more pronounced in the photograph than they appeared in person.
This image is one of a whole series of Moon Shadow images.
The entire time I was watching the eclipse and photographing the wonderful, unusual resulting shadows, the words of an old Cat Stevens song kept ringing in my head. "I'm being followed by a moon shadow..." I hadn't thought of that song in years, but, very appropriately, this historical astronomical event brought it to mind again.
