Description
This is what a Brit considers a proper breakfast. It consists of fried eggs, fried sausages, fried bread, fried bacon (the meat that we across the pond would call ham) (they disparagingly refer to our "bacon" as "streaky bacon," and this lovely ham-type meat as true "bacon"). It also includes fried tomatoes, baked beans, and, although not pictured here, often also includes fried mushrooms. Note the emphasis on fried?!! Not exactly health food, but delicious!
My husband is from London, and when we travel there, we have a tradition. Upon our arrival in the morning following an overnight flight, our host picks us up from Gatwick airport, and we drive about an hour to South London. On the way, he stops at a bakery and picks up some fresh crusty bread. Upon arrival at his home, while we are busy unpacking and settling in, he and his wife prepare bacon sandwiches, with fried slices of bacon served on buttered crusty bread. Of course it all comes with a cup of tea!
We generally visit for awhile, catching up on events since our last visit. My husband and I then retire for an afternoon catch-up nap (does anyone really ever sleep on international flights?), are up for the evening, and back to sleep on English time that night. By the next morning, we are pretty much over jet lag and good to go! I am pretty sure those bacon sandwiches receive much of the credit!!

Absolutely! When my English husband and I fly to England, the routine is for our friends to pick up some crusty bread on the way home from the airport, and fix us bacon sandwiches and a cup of tea before we even unpack our luggate! The full English breakfast comes later, and we often have our very last one at Gatwick before flying out! So enjoy when you get there, Jolanta!

Ha,ha...it had to be an English breakfast with Polish sausages...I am in Canada by the way..I will be coming to England this year...so you know what I am having the minute I land???
Carla Parris
Thanks, Jolanta! So what did you do about sausages? The proper English ones are very difficult to come by in the States.

Oh, no! Carla! What are you doing to me!! This last time I saw this scrumptious image...George had to go out and search for English baked beans...and we had a feast...with all the trimmings...oc it wasn't the same like in England... so f/v again!

Thanks, Heidi! A proper English breakfast has just about everything fried, including the bread (!), and while certainly not healthy, is delicious, and can fortify one for a full day of sightseeing in this wonderful country!

Thanks, Richard! My English husband misses those English breakfasts... U.S. shops just don't sell anything like English bacon (please, none of this streaky bacon!!) and Kennedy sausages!
