Description
During the 2017 solar eclipse, there were wonderful, beautiful, unusual shadows.
When partially obscured sunlight passed through small openings in vegetation, the openings acted as a multitude of pinhole cameras, projecting images of the partially eclipsed sun onto the ground below. Because the ground was not always at the focal point, many of the shadows were softly out of focus, giving the shadows a dreamy, ethereal look and feel. In some cases, such as here, there was a double layers of shadows. Here, there were very soft, subtle shadows through overhead trees, and more distinct shadows from some crepe myrtle branches which were closer to the ground.
In order to get as clear an image as possible, I placed a piece of stretched white canvas underneath the shadows I wanted to capture.
This image has been lightly edited and colorized with pink and cranberry tones, inspired by the color of the flowers of the flowering branches.
