Description
ANHINGA WITH OUTSTRETCHED WINGS is a digital photograph of an exotic water bird by Carla Parrris.
This image was taken at Edward Ball Wakulla Springs State Park in northwest Florida, outside Tallahassee.
Anhingas are cormorant-like birds. They are also called darters, water turkeys, or snake birds. The latter name derives from their appearance when they swim with the bulk of their body submerged and only their neck above the water.
After swimming, anhingas perch in a sunny spot with outstretched wings to dry themselves.
This beautiful black and white colored bird is perched on a small stand of cypress knees in the Wakulla River.
