Description
ANCIENT ROMAN PONT DU GARD IN PROVENCE is a photogrqph by Carla Parris.
The Pont du Gard, in southern France, is an impressive section of the 1st century Roman aqueduct built to supply water to the city of Nimes.
This three story structure crosses the Gard (or Gardon) river.
Measuring almost fifty meters high, this masterful and beautiful technical and artistic achievement is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and a major tourist attraction.
The Pont du Gard is one of the most impressive of the numerous significant Roman ruins which can be seen throughout Provence.
It is not far from the less formidable, but equally popular, Pont d'Avignon, made popular by a well-known French song.

Wow, what an impressive structure! I missed seeing this up close in France but saw it from far away when I was in a train, and it was striking even from there! Glad you got to see this! l/f
