Description
AN ALLIGATOR'S DECEPTIVE SMILE is a digital photograph by Carla Parris.
This alligator, who is relaxing in the sunshine on a cool autumn day, appears to have a big smile. But that gator grin gives a glimpse of his treacherous teeth, warning the viewer not to be deceived.
When my husband and I spotted this smiling alligator at St. Marks Wildlife Reserve one November afternoon, my husband started singing a song I didn't recognize, which included the words, "Never smile at a crocodile...Don't be taken in by his welcome grin. He's imagining how well you'd fit within his skin!" I have since learned that these are the words to a song written for, but ultimately not included in, Peter Pan, which was later included in an episode of The Muppets. It is a cute song that seemed to perfectly fit this fella.
