Totally an awesome capture of this fine scenic wonder, Carla! I love the architecture of this beauty, and the paved walkway is very nice! The white of the buildings with the color added intermittently is awesome! Congrats on a very worthy sale, and you got my F/V on this masterfully captured beauty!

Artist's Description

Alberobello, Italy is famous for its traditionally built ancient stone houses called trulli.

This image shows the courtyard of a group of trulli. There are potted trees and pink flowering plants providing color against the white walls of the trulli.

In 1996, the trulli were designated a UNESCO World Heritage site.

The urban trulli in Alberobello date from the 18th, 19th and 20th centuries.

One theory of the origin of the design of trulli is that due to high taxation on property, the people of Puglia created dry wall constructions that could be dismantled quickly when inspectors were in the area. This is documented as having occurred in 1644 to thwart tax inspectors sent by the King of Naples.

I found these unique structures whimsical and charming. I think they look like a Mediterranean version of hobbit dwellings!

About Carla Parris

Carla Parris

My love of photography grew out of capturing images from my travels, so photographs of beautiful and interesting places comprise a large portion of my portfolio. I am a Southern girl, and love the beauty that is in my back yard, so there are also lots of images from close to home. These include images of our beautiful Gulf Coast beaches, which I visit any time I can! I also enjoy capturing images of interesting flora and fauna, and wildlife images I am able to capture with my newest telephoto lens! I am a painter, as well as a photographer, and offer galleries of paintings and mixed media pieces. My interest in traditional art has spilled over to my post processing of photographs, and in addition to images with minimal post...
