Description
Antigua and Barbuda, located in the middle of the Leeward Islands of the Eastern Caribbean, between the Caribbean Sea and the Atlantic Ocean, are the two largest islands comprising the tropical nation of Antigua and Barbuda. It also includes the smaller islands of Great Bird, Green, Guiana, Long, Maiden, York Islands, and Redonda.
To the south are the islands of Montserrat and Guadaloupe, and Nevis, St. Kitts, St. Barts, and St. Martin are to the north and west.
St. John's, pictured here, located on the island of Antigua, is the capital and largest city of this West Indies country. It is the cosmopolitan commercial center of the nation, and the chief port of Antigua. It is frequented by tourists from the island’s resorts and from cruise ships docked in the harbor at Heritage Quay and Redcliffe Quay.
This panoramic image shows St. Johns, bathed in beautiful afternoon light. The baroque style church towers in the distance belong to St. Johns Cathedral, initially constructed in 1845, and subsequently rebuilt following earthquakes in 1683 and 1745.
