Description
WEATHERED BEAUTY IN SAVANNAH'S HISTORIC DISTRICT is a painterly style textured digital photograph by Carla Parris.
The historic district of Savannah is full of architectural interest. Not only does the region have buildings with columns, balconies, window boxes, gaslights, and ornate iron grillwork, but it also has charming picturesque cottages like the one pictured here.
The Pirates House is a picturesque, historic building which is popular with visitors to Savannah. The well-preserved former seaferers' tavern, dating back to 1794, is located on Broad Street.
.
The facade of the building is one of the sites on trolley tours of Savannah's historic district. This charming scene, with an old, weathered wooden bench and a blue-shuttered window, on a brick wall with crumbling white tabby covering, is the front of a small building attached to the main complex.
The interior of the building, which now houses a popular restaurant, provides great ambience for diners. It's old rum cellar, located beneath the complex of rooms comprising the main building, is one of the highlights of visitors taking one of the many ghost tours of the city. According to tradition, the tunnel from that room, which runs to the Savannah river, was often used by nefarious sea captains to complete their crews by dragging drugged, drunken seamen from the tavern to their ships.
