Description
These gondolas on the Grand Canal in Venice seemed to be slumbering, as they rocked gently back and forth in the stillness of the night.
By day, the Grand Canal is quite a different (busy!!) place. All manner of boats, from gondolas, to vaporetti, to water taxis, to cruise ships, navigate the Grand Canal, and not all in the same direction. They don't even just go up and down the canal; they also traverse it from bank to bank.
But on the quiet back canals of this historic city, gondoliers skillfully guide these iconic vessels under bridges and around tight turns, offering the passenger wonderful views punctuated only by the gentle lapping of the water and, if you are lucky, a serenade.
