Description
PINK WATER LILIES AT MONET'S GIVERNY POND is a fine art digital photograph by Carla Parris.
It is apparent, from the first view of Monet's pond and gardens at his home in Giverny, France, why the artist found inspiration here for his Impressionistic paintings during the last 30 years of his life.
To one familiar with the artist's work, the actual scene is instantly recognizable. I felt immediately at home there. It felt like a delightful reunion with an old friend. I could have stayed there forever...
I learned, during my tour of the l'Orangerie museum the morning before my visit to Giverny, that one characteristic of the Nympheas, Monet's water lily paintings, and particularly the large canvases so stunningly on display as murals at the l'Orangerie, was the absence of a horizon. The focus of Monet's paintings was the surface of the water - both the floating lilies and pads, and the reflections of sky, sea, and surrounding vegetation and trees.
Inspired by these design elements, I composed this photographic image with no horizon and, while the lilies predominate, with some areas of reflection, as well.
