Description
LOVELY LANE CHAPEL ON ST. SIMONS ISLAND is a digital photograph of a picturesque little church by Carla Parris.
Lovely Lane Chapel, built in 1880 by Norman W. Dodge, is the oldest church structure presently standing on St. Simons Island, Georgia.
The quaint white chapel is situated near Epworth by the Sea, a Methodist conference and retreat complex. It was formerly named St. James Union Chapel. Its current name comes from the Baltimore, Maryland site of the 1784 Founding Conference of American Methodism.
St. Simons Island is one of Georgia's barrier islands on its Atlantic coast. These Golden Isles are popular vacation destinations. St. Simons Island is particularly scenic with its canopy roads formed by Spanish moss-laden overhanging branches of massive live oak trees.
St. Simons Island was the subject of a trilogy of books by Eugenia Price.
