Description
ITALIAN IMPASTO STYLE CORAL FLORAL BRANCH is a digital image by Carla Parris.
This Old World image, in an Italian impasto style, features a branch with coral flowers similar to petunias, against a plastered wall.
The original image was an digital photograph I took in Honduras on rural roads near the small town of Lisapa, about an hour outside the capital city of Tegucigalpa.
The flowers were actually lipstick pink, and they were growing in front of a gray tone concrete wall of an abandoned old building that was probably formerly a humble residence.
Part of what appealed to me in the original scene was the contrast of the beautiful bright flowers against the wonderful patina and texture of the weathered wall.
When I got ready to work on the image, I knew I wanted to play up the textural aspect of the background wall. I ultimately settled on an impasto style, with clearly evident brush or palette strokes, and lovely plays of light on the dimensions of the paint. I also chose warm, golden tones reminiscent of classic works by the Old Masters.
Digital editing, tweaking, and antiquing included use of multiple textures, including one courtesy of Melissa Gallo.
