Description
This image of water lilies is a photograph I took of the actual pond, and water lilies, at the home of French Impressionist painter Claude Monet, in Giverny, France, which were the subject matter of his famous Nympheas (Water Lilies) oil paintings.
Like Monet's paintings, this photograph focuses on the surface of the water with its reflections, here of the surrounding weeping willow trees, and its floating water lilies. Also like the paintings, this image has no horizon, and has an abstract and atmospheric quality.
Photograph taken August 26, 2013, when I had the pleasure of spending the morning visiting the l'Orangerie museum in Paris, which houses Monet's large water lilies murals. and spending the afternoon visiting his home and gardens in Giverny.

How interesting , Carla. How marvelous to be able to go there to visit and see the gardens. I love the waterlilies, the reflections and the muted colors that you captured. L/f

Carla, this does look so "Monetish", if I may use artistic license here! It is a beauty for sure and somewhat impressionistic looking as such! I think that Monet was very much of a "Romantic", as evidenced by his beautiful and soulful looking paintings of Water Lilies! Love this work, so I am back for a revisit! Fave!

Thank you, Marsha. Interesting, I did very little to the original capture. Not sure how/why, but it had an impressionistic look to it from the start, which pleased me immensely! Glad it looked Monet-ish to you!!

Thank you, Lenore! Interestingly, I didn't do much editing of this image... Somehow, the initial capture rendered an impressionistic view of Monet's water lilies, which was perfect!!

This is truly beautiful and inspirational, Carla! I am imagining now (as an artist myself) as I look at this dreamy scene that there is somewhere nearby a very polished High Society French woman with a beautiful pastel colored dress on, as well as a hat, and, of course, an umbrella to shield her delicate skin from the sun. Perhaps she is having tea and is seated next to this body of water. As she sips slowly on her tea, she contemplates what it would be like to go out on a small boat, like a rowing boat! The sun's rays would gently shine all around her to create a wonderful impressionistic scene!
