Description
BEAUTIFUL AUSTRALIAN BUSH is a painterly style version of a digital photograph by Carla Parris.
This beautiful stone walkway through wild Australian bush was captured in the Blue Mountains, outside Sydney.
The Blue Mountains National Park is a UNESCO World Heritage site in New South Wales.
The term 'mountains' is actually a misnomer, as the Blue Mountains are technically an elevated plateau dissected by large rivers. They were described by our tour guide as'"the Grand Canyon with clothes on," because they are canyon-like, but with heavy vegetation.
The Blue Mountains, in the east of Australia, presented a formidable impediment to early settlers seeking to travel west. These explorers were unsuccessful in traversing the Great Dividing Range by descending into, and climbing out of, the steep canyons. It was not until native Aborigines showed settlers a path across the top of the plateau that they were able to reach, and settle, inland and western regions.
The park's 247,000 hectares feature blue-hazed terrain, whose color is attributable to forests of eucalyptus trees. There are impressive sandstone cliffs and rock formations, lush rain forests, spectacular waterfalls, and extensive wild bush.
