Description
A BASKET OF SEA BISCUITS is a photograph by Carla Parris.
This woven basketfull of white sea biscuits was photographed at The Tin Shed, a nautical theme gift shop in the Gulf Coast town of Apalachicola, Florida.
Sea biscuits are a rounded type of sand dollar. These, and the more common flattened sand dollars, are burrowing sea urchins. They are all members of the Clypeasteroida botanical order.
These plump, puffy looking shells, which remind me of the cute and lovable little Pillsboro dough boy, seem perfectly named.
These round shells, with their five-pointed shell design on the top, are also called sea cookies, snapper biscuits, and pansy shells.
